~ Ficus ~

 Most people are surprised to find that the edible fig, the weeping fig, fiddle leaf fig, rubber tree and the creeping fig all fall under the same genus. They are classified together because all bear small or large figs that are inedible in most species. The ornamental varieties are very popular house plants. They make beautiful focal points, in the larger sizes and excellent accent plants, in the smaller bush forms. In general, they thrive on evenly moist soil, not wet, and bright indirect sunlight. Do not allow air from the HVAC system to blow directly on the foliage and, once established in a certain spot, do not change its location unless absolutely necessary. They are grown commercially in the following forms: bush, column, standard and standard braid. The varieties we normally stock are Ficus benjamina India & Malaysia, Ficus elastica. India & Malaysia, Ficus benjamina "Midnight" and "Monique" hybrid, Ficus binnendijkii "Amstel" hybrid, Ficus lyrata tropical Africa and Ficus pumila China, Japan and Australia. Unlike the other Ficus, pumila is a creeping, climber. Our selection pot sizes of 6 inch, 8 inch, 3gal, 5gal, 7gal, and some 15gal, larger sizes may be available through special order. |
